And So It Begins!

All sorts of wonderful information came my way this morning. First, the web page for my class finally came online. I’ve got quite a bit of reading ahead of me today. Second, my bill came due for the class. I wanted to look into the details of when it’s due, and the means by which I can pay the bill off, but the University shuts down parts of its system on Sundays, 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Sigh.

Still, I’m hoping to learn what I have to do to be able to successfully complete this class. Since Tina is going to kick me out of the house so she can clean I’ll just take the old MacBook Air with me and do some reading at a local coffee shop.

New Addon for Firefox

I have a new grammar, spell check, and punctuation addon for Firefox. It proofs as I write, giving me all sorts of suggestions and corrections. So far I’m liking it! Hoping it will help improve my posts.

Huh. It appears I’ve got several “Advanced Issues” that don’t get corrected unless I upgrade. Honestly, with school fast approaching it wouldn’t hurt to have an advanced proof writing app.

Let The Education Begin!

Alright! Got an email from my online instructor for my one and only class. It’s PSY 1001 Section 27 (online only), Fall 2016! I am super excited!

Oh, and a bit scared. This will be different. I have to motivate myself, at home, with all the damn distractions that come with it.

Good Morning World

Nothing much to really say, other than I spent some time reading my text book again. Where once this time in the morning was spent writing in my journal, it will now be spent doing school work.

Oh, and I finished chapter two, which was statistics. Chapter three is brain biology. Ugh.

A Return to College

Well, I’m up to page 72, in the second chapter, of my textbook for the Introduction to Psychology class. Granted, the class – online – doesn’t start until September 9th, but I wanted to get a head start. So far, some new things have been introduced. But, for the most part, it’s not anything I haven’t learned from various CEU courses I’ve taken for my LADC license or from high school.

However, it’s just the start. I’m sure I’ll be introduced to new concepts and ideas as I progress into the book, as well as getting into the actually class itself.

The one area that the book delved into right away was pseudoscience. Though I’d never actually studied anything about it, I was pretty much in agreement about what it is. I also understood most of the stuff about bias, etc.

I really am looking forward to starting the class. Just waiting on the instructor to email me the syllabus for the class. I doubt we’re covering ever single page of the book. My experience with taking classes though the College of Continuing Education taught me that almost every book I had to buy I only ended up reading just small sections for class. Hell, there was one required book that was not even assigned for reading in classes. We were just supposed to read the whole thing. I don’t remember there ever being a discussion, quiz, or test on the thing. Yet it is was probably the most influential book I’ve ever read about counseling.

But that’s a post for another time.

Waiting Impatiently

I applied for admission into the College of Continuing Education at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities Campus. That was over a month ago. Since then? Yeah, nothing. No word on the status of my application. I was supposed to find out on July 20th. Here it is the 28th and it doesn’t even show if my high school transcripts my sister mailed on the 14th arrived. This is very frustrating.

Another Morning!

I managed a damn good night sleep. Woke up refreshed and full of energy. So, I am hopeful for today.

On another, totally different, subject – I signed up for college the other month. Last night I registered for an online class. I’m still working on the registration for admission into the specific college; I have to get a hold of my high school transcripts. That’s a scary proposition as I graduated over 42 years ago, and then just barely.

Anyway, another fine adventure I’ve set for myself.
