There really is nothing to say. It seems I’m maintaining a good 14 mph average even with the sporadic riding. Unfortunately, the weather and my health have conspired to prevent me from riding my bike into work lately. I am hoping to do so Friday. I am also hoping to learn what is wrong with my sinuses soon. I have a CT scan tomorrow. At least the saline solution/antibiotic nasal rinse has knocked down the bacterial infection. I can breath a hell of a lot easier, and my post nasal drip is gone!

2013 Tour De Rook – Leg 4

To the stats!

  2. Time: 01.12.13
  3. Max Speed: 19.9 mph
  4. Average Speed: 14.8 mph

I went up past Sturgeon Lake. What I was not expecting was rain. Weather.com said it would not rain until 2:00 PM. Well, guess what? They were wrong! I turned around just past Sturgeon Lake when it started drizzling. By the time I was on the south side of Sturgeon, it was raining hard. In fact, just to thumb her nose at me, Mother Nature decided to reduce the down pour to a sprinkle with in a minute of my getting inside my house. Sigh.

Anyway, I actually liked riding in the rain. There was no wind to speak of, and the temperature was just a bit cool to counter my sweating. The thing was, I had electronics in my pockets which would not survive a drenching. So, when I reached Willow River I stopped at Peggy Sue’s and wrapped them in a small garbage bag. It was a good thing too, because the protective cover for my iPod was starting to retain water. My phone managed to not get wet, which is a blessing! Anyway, I arrived home with pretty good stats.

One other thing; this year I have decided not to include any stats for when I ride my bike to work. However, I can say with certainty that it is 7.18 miles from my front door to the front door of where I have to sign in to start my work day. That is just over 14 miles each time I ride to work.

I also am going to write about my health, but in another post later today. At least, that is my hope. Until then, blog on!

2013 Tour De Rook – Leg 3

To the stats!

  1. Miles: 9.04Tour_Rook
  2. Time: 00.39.28
  3. Max Speed: 25.1 mph
  4. Average Speed: 13.7 mph
  5. iPod: Cinderella – Long Cold Winter
  6. Temperature: 64° F
  7. Wind: S 18 mph
  8. Humidity: 32%

I took a modified route. Instead of going all the way to Finlayson, I instead turned back north at a road about 4 miles south of Rutledge. It angles slightly to the west of Rutledge, and I then cut east on the Rutledge road. With an 18 mph head wind the first 4 miles, which happens to have a series of hills, I am not surprised that my average speed was down today. However, I can say for certain that I maintained the 25.1 mph max speed for quite some time on a level road.

2013 Tour De Rook – Leg 2

To the stats!

  1. Miles: 10.36Tour_Rook
  2. Time: 00.43.24
  3. Max Speed: 25.8 mph
  4. Average Speed: 14.2 mph
  5. iPod: Indigo Girls – Rites of Passage
  6. Temperature: 73° F
  7. Wind: S 4 mph
  8. Humidity: 32%

Once again I am surprised. It was a nice run. With the hills I hit on the way to and from Finlayson I am pleased that I was able to stay with in .2 mph of the first leg’s average speed. All and all a good start to the 2013 season of bicycling. Yes. A very good start.

2013 Tour De Rook – Leg 1

Yes indeed! It is that time of year for the world famous Tour De Rook. Today’s leg was to and from Willow River. Anyway, to the stats!

  1. Miles: 8.88Tour_Rook
  2. Time: 00.33.41
  3. Max Speed: 20.4 mph
  4. Average Speed: 14.4
  5. iPod: Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More
  6. Temperature: 69° F
  7. Wind: SSW 8 mph
  8. Humidity: 25%

I have to admit, it was easier than I expected. I suspect part of why it went better than I thought is the weight I have lost since the end of last fall. I am down 10 pounds. I hope that with the start of this year’s Tour De Rook, I will lose even more weight.
